KVK Jammu started functioning in 1993. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jammu during short span of fifteen year with sustained and sincere efforts of its scientists and staff have been able to motivate the farmers to establish various Agro-vocational enterprises. The KVK trained farmers are now imparting training to various fellow farmers as a horizontal multiplier effect. 
KVK Jammu is the center where farmers/farm women/ unemployed youth gets training about Crop production, Vegetable production, Plant protection, Floriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, Ago-forestry, Mushroom growing etc. 

The activities of KVK based on these mandates:-
1. Conducting On farm Trainings for identifying technologies in terms of location specific sustainable land use system
2. Organize training to update extension personal with latest updates
3. Organize short and long term vocational courses to farmers for generating self employment
4. Organize demonstration on various crops to generate production data and feed back from farmers

LOCATION

KVK-Jammu is 23 km from district head quarter and 15Km from University Head quarter.

KVK Jammu is located at R.S.Pura and cover whole Jammu district. The Jammu district sprawls over on area of about 3100 Square Km and is located between 32 .55' N and 32 .44' N latitude and 74 .48' E and 74 .55' E longitude

Thrust Areas

Preservation and promotion of Jammu Basmati. A novelty of the area. Introduction of Pusa Basmati varieties in non Basmati growing areas. (early maturing varieties) Promotion of seed replacement with introduction of new varieties, and disease and pest management in wheat, maize, oilseeds and pulses. Introduction of new fodder varieties, increasing area under fodder crops, round the year fodder production. Promotion of HYVs, Insect pest management, round the year cultivation, healthy nursery raising of vegetable crops. Commercial Farming including Floriculture, Mushroom, Dairy, Poultry, Fisheries and diversification. Seed production of Basmati Paddy for further spread in the district.
